two Titus lines?

What a wonderful website - thank you!
I believe I'm a descendant of Hannah Titus (b.1701), who descended from three John's in a row: father John (1678-1732 Rehoboth) > grandfather John Titus (1650-1697 Rehoboth) > great grandparents John Titus and Hannah Carpenter. As I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada, most of my research to date has been done via internet. So finding your website was a highlight in my research of my Titus and Carpenter lines.

I may have a 2nd Titus line, but have hit a brick wall. My 2x great grandmother was born Phebe Titus Dean, born in Cornwall, Orange, New York 1812. Her parents were Daniel Dean and Abigail Carpenter, both devout Quakers. Abigail was descended from Joseph Carpenter of Oyster Bay and his wife Hannah Carpenter, daughter of the Rehoboth William Carpenter, thereby giving me descent from both William Carpenters.

But, I've been unable to find Daniel Dean's paternal grandmother. I know her Christian name was Sarah, and she married Daniel Dean, son of Jedediah Dean of New Jersey. I believe that Daniel Dean sr married into a Quaker family, as did his brother, Jonathan Dean. Because of the middle name, "Titus", I've been trying to find a Sarah Titus who married a Daniel Dean, and moved from New Jersey to New York in the mid-late 1700s. Of course the "Titus" might just have been because the Deans, Carpenters and Titus families all belonged to the Society of Friends, and seem to have moved west to Michigan at about the same time, early to mid 1800s.

I'd love to correspond with any/all Titus, Carpenter and Dean cousins! My email is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

So far, I've only searched under the name Titus. At times the job of indexing can be very difficult and some of the enumerators could be somewhat sloppy with their writing skills.
For instance, the capital letters T and F can be confused, so that the surname often comes out as Fitus. I know that there have been many such instances in the 1940 census, but I haven't yet worked on them or listed them.

We descend from Teunis Titus of Loudoun County, VA

Thank you so much for all the time you have spent doing all this work, and also to all those who send you additional information.

My aunt (neé) Titus started looking into family lines with great gusto, and fizzled out when it got more difficult. However, she did find the Titus crest. I suddenly want to dig up that sad file and see if she managed to connect us Nova Scotian Titus to a better recorded line. It's poorly organized, shallowly researched, and dry as bones.

In the mean time I will list the little I know.

Ugene Titus married my grandma Mary Madeline (neé) Douchette. They had 10 children and many still births and miscarriages. My mother is one of those 10. Tempted to list of my aunts and uncles, but I'll respect their privacy.

It's very little info. But it's what I have.

Hi- Your site is fascinating. My brother Gary is the family researcher but I see some familiar names so I'll provide what little I know as a start. You list an obituary for a Rose L. Titus. She was married to my father's brother Harold Titus. My father is Robert Lewis Titus from Candia NH. Their parents, Nelson and Signe (Rice) Titus are listed in the SSN list. Anyone interested in the NH Titus line can drop me an email. I'll forward to my brother who has quite a bit of info. My email is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. My grand father was John Elzie Titus 1909-1978.. His parents were John Benton Titus and Mary Rebecca (Blake) Titus.. the story passed down from Grandfather is that his father John Benton was an illigitimate son raised by his Mother , but believed his Mother was an older sister.. Nobody remembered her name.. Said she was engaged to a Schultz, but he fell off an oil derrick and died before they were married.. 1910 census lists John and Mary Titus and my Grandfather John E Titus... Can not find the name or birth certificate for John Benton Titus, listed as born in PA and list parents born in PA ( which would actually be his grandparents) anyone have any info?? thank you soo much!! Titus family of Easton, PA

Kathryn Titus Stott
This is my first attempt at research. My greatgrandfather was Lawrence Parker Titus. I believe he was born in Easton. PA. He was a conductor on the Jersey Central RailRoad. My grandfather was Russell Parker Titus Sr who came from Easton, PA to Philadelphia, married Ann Elizabeth Wade around 1910. Their son Russell Parker Titus Jr was my father. They moved to Lynbrook, NY when my father was a toddler.

Could someone point me to the correct Titus line to explore?

Thank you so uch,
